Erling Braut Haaland on Saturday put Borussia Dortmund ahead against Schalke in the German Bundesliga game as the match was played behind closed doors after a two-month coronavirus shutdown.

Haaland diverted a low Thorgan Hazard cross into the far corner of the net in the 29th minute for the first goal of the five matches kicking off on the long-awaited comeback of top-flight football in Europe.

Haaland’s goal was his 10th in nine Bundesliga appearances after the prolific 19-year-old Norwegian striker moved to Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in the winter.

A notable fact after Haaland scored was that his teammate could not go close to him to celebrate the goal as they had to maintain social distancing rule as a measure to avoid being infected by the coronavirus.

Haaland also supported the second goal, forcing Schalke goalkeeper Markus Schubert into a poor clearance which led to Raphael Guerreiro making it 2-0 just before a half-time whistle was heard.

A Dortmund win would leave them a point behind leaders Bayern Munich, who play on Sunday.
