Germany’s top tier football division The Bundesliga will resume its footballing activities on May 16 2020, but this time behind closed doors in order to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus.
This decision makes them the first footballing league in Europe to restart activities after the league was suspended on March 13 2020. One of the games to be played on the first matchday after the league’s restart would be the derby between Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund.

Another interesting game to see would be the match between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin. German champions Bayern Munich, who are four points clear at the top of the table travel to Berlin on Sunday to take on 11th placed Union Berlin.
Most teams in the German Bundesliga have nine games to play with the final weekend of the season rescheduled for the 27th and 28th of June 2020. The German Football Association (DFB) said in a media release that the season would resume under strict health protocols that ban football fans from the stadiums. This protocol also requires that players be tested for Covid-19.

As part of the health protocols, about 300 people including players, staffs and club officials would be allowed in or around the stadiums on matchdays.
Christian Seifert, Chief Executive of The German Football League said: “It is crucial to resume play despite empty stands and other restrictions”. Bundesliga clubs have since returned to training in Mid-April, with players working together in groups.
