Former Governor of Delta State Chief James Onanefe Ibori was reportedly listed as one of the former governors and lawmakers of the Niger Delta States who benefited from the Nigeria Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contracts.
This came after the Niger Delta Minister, Godswill Akpabio exposed the names of the political leaders who benefited on the NDDC contracts in a letter that was sent to the Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila. However, the former Governor has denied the corruption allegations.

In a statement issued by his media aide Tony Eluemunor, the former governor dismissed the accusations as ridiculous and unworthy of a response. The statements read, “Ibori did not want to join in the ‘dance in the market square’ going on in the NDDC right now.
“He has decided to make this clarification for the records because friends and associates inundated him with phone calls this morning. So, he is stating categorically that he never solicited for, or was awarded, or indeed executed any contract with NDDC or any government agency, at any time, for that matter,”

The statement further outlined that Ibori has never been accused of being a government contractor since he left his office and he did not want to reply to the allegations because they were unreasonable. “ So, Ibori is advising Akpabio, his brother, friend, and member of the former Governors Forum, to please calm down and focus on the task at hand,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, another ex-governor Orji Uzor of the Abia State who was also mentioned in the letter has denied benefiting from the contracts awarded by NDDC as alleged by Akpabio.
