The Ondo State Government has closed two secondary schools in the state for failing to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols. The resumption of schools was to enable students to prepare for examinations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recall that the state government urged the Heads of Schools before the resumption of classes to make certain that they strictly follow all the COVID-19 measures to ensure the safety of students. However, the CAC Grammar School, Ondo Road, Akure, and Akure Academy, Oba-lle has failed to follow all the procedures.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr Akin Asaniyan reported that the schools were sealed for not complying with all the COVID-19 protocols. Asaniyan noted that students were seen in the mentioned schools roaming around the streets.
“There is no single preparation, therefore the schools will remain sealed until basic things are put in place. This issue of COVID-19 is an unusual and strange trend and very dangerous issue which needed prompt attention because it involves lives,” he added. He further said that the government would not allow such poor performances by the schools.

Moreover, schools were urged to ensure that they check the temperature of all school-related personnel and students before allowing them to enter school premises and also provide hand sanitizers or have a source of flowing water, soap for washing hands.
According to the Principal of Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, Mrs Taye Bola, the schools have been trying to make the schools conducive for learning for the students in the past few weeks before resumption.
