Javier Tebas had continually targeted Mid-June as a likely resumption date, and he reaffirmed this goal on Sunday, May 10, 2020.

In an interview with a Spanish television company, Movistar, he said: “I don’t know. I wish La Liga’s resumes on June 12.  It will depend on the phases. It will depend on the spikes in the virus. It should be noted that La Liga and the Segunda Division will end at the same time.”

“There would be league football every day for the next 35 days after La Liga resumes.” Javier Tebas added.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed on Sunday, that five players across Spain’s top two divisions had tested positive for COVID-19.

Tebas said that the result was better than expected, and he hopes all players are cleared when La Liga finally resumes.

“We hope for the return of the competition with no player infected. If things are done as they should be, there shouldn’t be any more reported cases,” he said. Furthermore, he added, that if five infected persons appeared at a club, it would denote some negligence

The infected players will be tested again in the next few days, and can only return to training after two negative results.
